Sod & Grading

Final Grade & Sod Installation

DirtWright performs both rough and final grade in Red Deer and surrounding area. We can supply and install topsoil for your yard, or just regrade the existing material you have. Our mini size equipment gives us efficient access to residential yards, while our full size machines let us provide landscape site work on bigger jobs. We can provide sod installation and also have options to renovate tired existing lawns.

Grading

New lawns should be installed on a well prepared grade. Both topsoil and subgrade should be sloped away from buildings and graded for proper drainage. On a new site we also typically compact the soil carefully to prevent future settling and grade problems. We find it’s a better value for us to do this when we’re first installing a yard, rather than coming back to repair grade problems.

Grass Installation

Sod or hydroseeding are two common ways DirtWright installs a lawn. Sod is immediate and brings a swift finish to the project, but is expensive. Hydroseed is less expensive and more suited to large areas, but takes up to several weeks to germinate. If sod or hydroseed are too costly, have us do the final grade and install seed for a less immediate but effective lawn. Any new lawn requires consistent watering and a minimum of traffic for the first while. The best value will be to have us install final grade and sod or seed simultaneously; this way we can get the grade to our liking and plant the lawn without an extra trip.

Lawn Rebuilds

We also have options to rejuvenate existing yards. Our most common technique is to skim coat with high quality organic material, then use a proprietary hydroseed and soil amendment mixture to restart growth. This has the additional benefit of opening up the soil so dew worms do not cause as much trouble. It also gives better results and is a better value than just rototilling and resodding, because it deals with some of the core problems. Simply resodding and propping up the lawn with chemicals and fertilizer won’t deal with the depleted soil that is causing the problems. We can go as far as replacing depleted soil and reinstalling sod, but this is extreme and not usually necessary.

DirtWright has the agronomic training to understand what it takes and the right equipment to build a lawn that will last and grow. We’ll bring the dirt and grade and level your yard too if necessary. Contact us for your residential and commercial sod, lawn, and hydroseed needs.
