Custom Shop and Garage Builder
Dirtwright specialises in full garage and and custom shop builds. We can work with our sister company to offer just the concrete garage foundation, or provide full project delivery from design and permits to lockup through us. Our ability to self perform the concrete and the garage structure means we skip the markup other garage builders normally put on those portions. We offer convenience through continuity by offering the full garage package from the foundation to the shingles. This allows us to keep a close eye on timeline and quality by ensuring steps are not missed between contractors.
Garage Structure
We believe in building sustainably and in conserving our resources; we know that the best way to do this is to build quality that lasts. As a minimum, we recommend walls with 2X6 studs on 16″ centres for strength, comfort, and future improvements, instead of the more common 2X4 studs spaced on 24″ centres. The latter is a little cheaper, but as anyone who’s been in one through a windstorm or cold snap knows, 2X4 garage construction is not as quiet, comfortable, or durable. We also have high efficiency options such as double stud walls, spray foam, exterior insulation, ICF, and shallow frost protected slabs, among others. Tricks like cast in place anchor bolts, hurricane ties, treated bottom plates, & using PWF plywood on the bottom of the wall add to longevity with minimal cost impact; we encourage clients to include an integral curb on the concrete pad as well to further protect the wall from moisture. This also can allow a much lower slope for entry into the garage, especially if the yard has any slope to it.
Roofing and Exterior Finishings
We carry the same mindset to our exterior finishings and doors. Our standard roofing uses modern, high quality asphalt shingles with synthetic underlay, appropriate vents, and ice and water membrane on the eaves. This offers substantially increased durability and protection over code minimums at a minimal cost increase. We have options for long-term roofing like rubber roofing or standing seam tin. Our standard garage build uses well built and insulated (R18 vs R12) overhead doors for long term durability, because a leaky garage door that binds up on the track ultimately costs more than the upfront cost of a higher grade door and opener. Our contracting experience lets us pay attention to the details on your garage construction so you don’t have to.
Garage options
Our concrete garage slab is already built for value and longevity, with extra rebar, gravel, and high grade concrete. However, we also offer higher end finishes for your garage floor such as a polished concrete floor or an epoxy coating. These add class and durability to your floor, and we work with our sister company to provide these at a high standard. Quality finishes do not go out of style.
We enjoy building custom shops and garages with unique details. We’ve done oversized, engineered ones, regular two car garages, and will look at projects like carriage homes and garden suites as well. We can offer unique options such as a suspended slab main floor to give additional space below. DirtWright builds solid, level buildings and takes pride in this.
